Roasts from £13.45 in Whitefield to £24 in Ramsbottom: nine Bury Sunday roasts with menu prices, serving times and booking details, checked 25 October.
For a Sunday roast in Bury, most people head out of the town centre to the Eagle & Child and Holcombe Tap in Ramsbottom, which belong to the same owners; the Hamers Arms at Summerseat; or the Pack Horse on the old Roman road at Affetside. For the lowest prices, the Joseph Holt pubs in Bury, Prestwich and Whitefield list roasts from £13.45. Every entry checked against the pub’s own website on 25 October 2026.
We have not eaten at these pubs for this guide, and nothing here is a review. Each entry gives what the pub publishes: its roasts and their prices where it lists them, the hours its kitchen serves on a Sunday, and how to book. We have added the Food Standards Agency hygiene rating for each one, and every pub here holds the top rating of 5. Menus change with the seasons, so treat prices as a guide and check before you go.

A gastropub near Summerseat station on the East Lancashire Railway, renamed in 1848 after Richard Hamer, who bought the Summerseat mills, and reopened after a refurbishment in 2022. Tottington, Hawkshaw and Affetside
The Red Lion, Hawkshaw
A country pub with hotel rooms on the road between Ramsbottom and Hawkshaw. Its website says that “every Sunday, we’re serving up proper roasts with all the trimmings, bottomless gravy and unlimited Yorkshire puddings”. It does not list Sunday prices online, so ask when you book. The pub opens noon to 10pm on Sundays, with food from noon to 7.30pm. Book on 01204 856600 or online. The Pack Horse, Affetside
A Hydes pub on Watling Street, the Roman road between Manchester and Ribchester. CAMRA’s listing, surveyed in February 2026, dates it to the 16th or 17th century and says most rooms have wood-burning stoves, with a restaurant at the back and views all round from its spot between Bury and Bolton. The pub’s own what’s on page describes a Sunday lunch platter “perfect for two sharing”: 12-hour roast beef, crispy belly pork, roast chicken, turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, mash, roast potatoes, vegetables and a bottomless jug of gravy. We could not find a current price online. CAMRA lists food from noon to 9pm every day. Call 01204 884584. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 8 October 2024). 52 Watling Street, BL8 3QW. Our listing.
The Old Dungeon Inn, Tottington
A Thwaites pub rebuilt in 1904 for the Bury Brewery Company, which CAMRA lists for its Pilkington’s glazed tiles and the front snug with a painted frieze of local scenes. CAMRA’s listing, updated on 9 October 2026, says the pub reopened under a new publican and serves traditional Sunday roasts from noon to 5pm, ordered through its Facebook page or website, alongside hot pies and pasties during the week. We could not find a Sunday menu with prices. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 20 October 2023). 9 Turton Road, BL8 4AW.
Bury, Prestwich and Whitefield
The Blue Bell, Manchester Road
A large Joseph Holt pub south of the town centre with a dining area, a lounge and a traditional vault. Holts says the menu runs to “a traditional roast on Sunday”, and its winter main menu prices it: topside of beef £15.45, half a roast chicken £15.25, honey roast gammon £14.95 and a chestnut and seed roast for vegetarians at £14.95, each with roast potatoes, broccoli, roast carrots, hispi cabbage, carrot and swede mash, a Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The Friendship Inn, Prestwich

Holts lists it as dog and child friendly with disabled access. It opens at 10am every day, with food until 8pm. Call 0161 773 2645. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 9 December 2024). Scholes Lane, M25 0PD. Its own menu lists an adult’s traditional Sunday roast at £13.45 and a children’s at £7.25, both with roast potatoes, broccoli, roast carrots, hispi cabbage, carrot and swede mash, a homemade Yorkshire pudding and gravy, plus three pigs in blankets for £2.50. Holts lists the pub as child and dog friendly with step-free access, and serves food from noon to 8pm every day. Call 0161 796 3583. Hygiene rating 5 (FSA, 4 December 2024). Higher Lane, M45 7EY. The Fisherman’s Retreat, the restaurant and whisky bar in Twine Valley above Ramsbottom, says on its own website that it is now closed. The Hearth of the Ram on Peel Brow no longer has a working website, and the hygiene register lists a business called The Ram at 13 Peel Brow awaiting its first inspection; we will add it once there is a menu to check.
How we chose
These are the pubs people search for when they want a Sunday roast in Bury, picked on the record rather than on taste: published Sunday menus we could read, awards, CAMRA’s listings, how long a pub has traded, and its food hygiene rating. We left out places whose Sunday food we could not confirm from the pub, its brewery or CAMRA. Prices come from the pub’s own menu on 25 October 2026.
