Casewells, the new food, drink and events hall at Bury Market, opens on Thursday 26 November, with an opening weekend running to Sunday 29 November.
Casewells, the food and events hall built alongside Bury Market, will open on Thursday 26 November.
The venue announced the date on its own Instagram account on Thursday. It said: “Food. Drinks. Events. And a BIG opening weekend.” The same post tells people to “plan your weekend at Casewells” from 26 to 29 November, so the opening runs from the Thursday to the Sunday.
It is the first firm date the project has had. Until this week, the operator’s website and Bury Council had only ever said “autumn 2026”. The website still says that.
What has not been announced yet
The post promises details of the opening weekend later. As of Sunday, Casewells has not published:
- which food traders have taken the units
- the opening hours
- the line-up for the opening weekend
- whether any of it is ticketed
We will add them when the venue publishes them.
What is inside
The terms the council agreed with the operator were set out in a Cabinet report in February. The ground floor has:
- 12 food and retail units
- a central bar
- a stage for live music and events
Under that agreement the venue has to open at least six days a week, from 10am until late. The council wanted it to fix a gap it named itself: Bury has plenty of daytime cafes, “but the night-time offer is much weaker”.
The hall is run by Midlands Events Bury Ltd on a 15-year lease. The council is lending it up to £1.1m for the fit-out. We set out the full terms, the risks the council listed and where the name comes from in our earlier report on Casewells.
Where the name comes from
Casewells is named after Casewell’s on Union Street. Historians believe it was where Bury’s first black pudding was made and sold, in 1810. The opening post carries old photographs of the shop sign, which read “The Original Pudding Shop”.
