The Bury Post is an independent news and information site for the borough of Bury. We work from documents, we link to them, and we are not connected to the council or to anybody we report on.

The borough

Bury itself, with its market and the Metrolink line down to Manchester; Ramsbottom and Tottington up the valley, where the East Lancashire Railway runs; Radcliffe and Whitefield in the middle; and Prestwich in the south, which faces Manchester more than it faces Bury. About 199,000 people live across the borough. They are separate towns with separate high streets, and they get written about here by name.

What we report

Bury Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Irwell and the Roch, and company filings in The Gazette. Some decisions that affect the borough are taken at Greater Manchester level rather than in Bury, and we say which is which rather than blaming the wrong body.

The way we work

Every fact comes from a named source and carries a link to it. Where a record is unclear we say it is unclear rather than filling the gap. We write in plain British English, we do not run press releases as reporting, and we do not republish other outlets’ photographs.

Tips and corrections

Email hello@theburypost.co.uk. Tips about a planning row, a closure, an opening or an event are welcome and treated in confidence, and if we have a detail wrong we will correct it quickly and note the correction on the page.
