Bury is the market town at the head of the borough, and the borough runs south from it along the Irwell valley: Radcliffe and Whitefield, Prestwich looking towards Manchester, Tottington on the moor edge, and Ramsbottom up the valley the other way, at the top of the steam line.

The Bury Post reports what the record shows across all of that. Bury Council publishes the planning register, the licensing notices, the committee papers and the spending, and those documents are where most of what changes here is decided first. We read them and write down what they say plainly, with a link to the original every time, and we keep the practical pages right for the days you just want an answer.

Start with these

  • House prices: the borough average is £238,266, and Prestwich costs £107,000 more than Radcliffe.
  • Trams and trains: there is no railway station in the borough. A tram every seven or eight minutes, Victoria in about 28.
  • Roadworks and travel: Peel Way and Rochdale Old Road are shut overnight, and an M66 slip road closes on 17 August.
  • Things to do: twelve free days out, what the East Lancashire Railway costs, and the two attractions that are closed.
  • Planning news: 9,486 homes proposed to 2043, and the Local Plan consultation closes on 11 September.

Nothing here is guesswork. Every figure links to its source.
